A functioning air conditioning system is your best defense against the scorching summer heat. The last thing you want to deal with during a heat wave is a broken AC, which is why it is important to be on the lookout for signs that your air conditioner may be failing you. Whether your system is undersized, unable to keep up with the mounting summer temperatures and humidity or it is about to give out on you altogether, do not be caught off guard!

Signs Your Air Conditioning System is in Need of Repairs:

1. Your AC is not producing cold air.

A lack of cold air is the easiest warning sign to spot when your AC needs repair work; it is also the most annoying and uncomfortable! No cold air could be a sign that you are low on refrigerant, the compressor has gone out or you have a number of other problems to worry about. If you crank your air conditioner to full blast and the air is still not cold, your AC needs professional maintenance.

2. Unusual sounds coming from your unit.

Is your air conditioning system making grinding, squealing, irritating or other weird noises? Strange sounds coming from your unit may be a sign that something is seriously wrong with the internal hardware of your AC. For example a grinding noise could mean that the motor’s bearings are damaged or broken. A sharp squealing sound is an indication that the belt may have slipped out of place or some components may need extra lubrication. Ignoring the unusual sounds that are coming from your air conditioning system can spell disaster and lead to total system failure. It is best to have your AC inspected right away.

3. Unpleasant odors coming from your vents.

Strong, foul odors coming from your air conditioner are possibly even more alarming than strange noises coming from your unit. Musty odors could be a sign that your system has mold or mildew growing inside your AC or in your ductwork. More pungent odors could be a sign that your air conditioning system’s wire insulation has burnt out. You will want to have these issues corrected as soon as possible.

4. Weak airflow

A sure sign that your AC’s compressor is failing is poor air flow coming through your vents. If you notice that some rooms or areas in your home are getting cooler than others, that is a sign that your air conditioner could need repairs urgently. This could also be a sign that your ductwork needs to be cleaned. Debris can become stuck in your AC vents over time, hindering airflow and lowering your indoor air quality.

5. Leakage or moisture buildup

A leaking air conditioning system can be an indication of two possible problems. More often than not, moisture around your unit will be caused by a refrigerant leak. Refrigerant leaks need to be repaired right away! These leaks can pose health and safety risks to you and your family and you should have one of our technical experts correct this as soon as possible.
